Group Meeting
A core group of 12 persons including activists, academics and practitioners is established in the thematic hub. One virtual online meeting was held on August 25, 2017 and another informal meeting on the sidelines of the COPASAH De-briefing, Review and Strategizing meeting on September 7, 2017, to discuss the concept note and arrive at concrete objectives of the hub. The fact that social accountability in maternal health and family planning is gaining popularity was discussed, along with the need to critique and propose new ways of “doing” social accountability in RH. Despite recognizing that tool-based tactical strategies do not work, the kind of practice being documented still centers on tools, rather than on broad based organizing using diverse strategies. Also, the varying contexts in which these practices are being implemented (both related to communities and the health system) in which they are being embedded need to be complicated, were also discussed. It was also mooted in the discussions that there is also a need for ethnographic research to document the need for responsive and culturally congruent Reproductive Health (RH) services, as well as the ways in which global policy making in RH plays out in local realities.
