Reach The Youth Uganda (RTY)

Context

Reach The Youth works in the area of education, HIV and AIDS , Human Rights and Advocacy in Uganda, Central and in the regions of Western Uganda, in the districts of Kasese, lwengo, Masaka, Rakai, Kalungu, Lyantonde. RTY is involved in training communities, advocacy, supporting education- primary schools with scholastic materials, research on HIV and AIDS, mentorship of primary children, training youth income generating activities among others

Approaches to implementing Community monitoring/accountability

Reach The Youth involves our target groups by training them on what social accountability means, how to hold leaders accountable, participating in budgeting and
budget monitoring, participating in programme design and monitoring and participating in evaluations.involving.

Results and lessons

A total of 1,410 orphan children supported to access education: conducted a research on factors influencing adherence to ARVs among young people 10-16 years, trained 800 in school children in IGA, conducted mentorship for 736in primary children. Trained 128 in human rights issues, sensitized commercial sex workers about HIV and AIDS, confidential voluntary counseling and testing; supporting most at risk populations with IEC materials about HIV and AIDS,trained village health teams, peer educators about HIV and AIDS and how to support communities to reduce effect of HIV and AIDS.. We have learnt that equipping communities with skills and involving communities in addressing their problems is the best way forward.
