Tarun Chetna Sansthan

Context

Tarun Chetna Sansthan is a voluntary development organisation established in 1993 with the prime objective of upliftment of poorest communities especially the marginalised women & children in the Pratapgarh, Jaunpur & Allahabad districts of Uttar Pradesh. Pratapgarh is one of the poorest districts in India, as identify by planning commission of the Indian Government. Tarun Chetna Sansthan was formed by a group of youths who were strongly influenced by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi who believed in equality and social justice.

Approaches to implementing Community monitoring/accountabilty

  • Nature of intervention: Directly involve with the community through better rapport building, awareness, people education, training and organising the community in a rights based model. “Jiska mudda uski ladai, jiski ladai uski aguwai”.   
  • Relationship: Supporting different backward communities and women's groups through education and other facilitation support.
  • Target Group: Women & children of poorest families from dalit, muslim and backward communities. 

Results and lessons

  • 450 CBOs formed from excluded community and 7500 families linked with these CBOs
  • Demand generated for health rights.
  • 80 federations formed which are working for women's awareness about their legal rights likes health, gender, RSBY, PDS, MNREGA and DV act.
  • 500 rural women from excluded communities became literate.  
  • 40 acres of land improved and 530 families benefited in agro-based livelihood.
