Village Health Committee – Sahiyya Resource Centre (VSRC)

Context

Village Health Committee – Sahiyya Resource Centre (VSRC), is a joint initiative of State Rural Health Mission, Jharkhand, a collective of civil society groups with a view to provide and facilitate proper training, monitoring and support to the Village Health Committees and Sahiyya’s (community health volunteers equivalent to ASHA under NRHM) in the state of Jharkhand. It will work in collaboration with government, NGOs and various stake holders.

Approaches to implementing Community monitoring/accountability

  • Prepare tools, orient all stakeholders for community mobilisation and monitoring.
  • Collect and analyse reports and train 40,000 community health workers and village health comiittee members (1 lakh)

Results and Lessons

  • Community based monitoring has been accepted by the system as an important tool for getting field level performance.
