The Video testimony from village Shamboli of Bidar district in Karnataka outlines the tale of Neelambika, who died after giving birth to her third child, due to lack of proper timely health care services during the delivery.The testimony demonstrates that merely providing all facilities without ensuring the system’s accountability to the people will not translate into better health outcomes. |

The Video testimony from district Raichur spells out a narrative of severely malnourished sixth child of the family. The family has meager earnings and the earnings have been spent on the treatment of the malnourished child. |

Snake Bite
The Video testimony from district Bidar of Karnataka, illustrates the story of health care denial through tale of snake bite death. It demonstrates that the public health system suffers from chronic shortage of medicines including life-saving emergency drugs. After being administered injections and medicines at Audar health facility, the snake bite victim was referred to Bidar, where he was left unattended for around 30 minutes and was later referred to Hyderabad city. While being taken to Hyderabad he died. It also demonstrates that doctors in government health centers and hospitals routinely write prescriptions to be bought from private pharmacies, the government’s promise of free medicines remains a distant dream. |

The video testimonial from Village Potnal, district Raichur of Karnataka evinces a tale of health care services denial besides reflecting upon the discrimination against women of marginalized communities in health facilities. It illustrates through the narrative of Durgamma about the circumstances that lead poor women to undergo hysterectomy and highlights why poor Dalit women feel alienated from the government health system, in circumstances when medical professionals practice untouchability in its crudest form and refuse to touch patients and do not physically examine and administer injections through the clothes. The testimonial also voices the efforts of Dalit women’s collective to reclaim the public health systems. |
